macfarlane turned his head slightly to watch atticus step away. it was a struggle not to let a sneer creep onto his lips; a criminal lawyer, he thought, ought to be able to stomach worse than this, and atticus’s reaction to the photographs was, in macfarlane’s opinion, nothing less than pathetic. knowing, however, that he’d be a fool to say any of that aloud, the doctor turned back to the screen and continued to flick through the images. he paused on one that showed a full shot of the chest and torso, peered closer, and then lifted a hand to point. “ see, there: she’s missing the lungs, heart, and kidneys. the eyes, too. it’s possible your culprit may be the sort to keep TROPHIES. ”
‘ you must think i’m pathetic. even i think i am, ’ splayed fingers rub against his temple, releasing a prolonged sigh. lungs, heart, kidneys, and eyes. lungs, heart, kidneys, and eyes. words ( so simple ) etch onto his mind, clicking with what he remembers from the photos. ‘ so you’re saying we need to look for a greedy buffalo bill in new york. i assume with medical experience, too. is there anything else you’d like to add? ’
“ what? er, i mean. maybe half-aliens, but we’re not fully aliens. sure some part of us were from the stars, but we evolved here, on earth. ” she finds herself going along with the flow. then she realizes the other completely mistook her words. she laughs in amusement, a bit embarrassed. “ well, i know how that feels but i wasn’t pertaining to that. i meant actual real unidentifiable aliens. they were hiding in the mall but, still. aliens. ”
‘ ––– so earthlings then. aliens who immigrated to earth. if only there’s a way to tell everyone those exact facts. maybe then –––, ’ he pauses, taking a sip. maybe then everyone would get along; maybe then the world would be fair, he doesn’t say. there’s no need to drag her into his politics. instead, her remark leaves him in low, spasmodic giggles. ‘ then i am jealous. i never got to go on adventures when i was a kid –– or now. eat, work, sleep, wake up, repeat. i wish i had an alien. ’
Normally he did not take kindly to people abruptly petting his dogs, but seeing as Belle actually liked this human, he let it go.

remaining as calm and level-headed as possible, macfarlane pushed the usb drive into the port, opened the file on his computer, and began to scan through the pictures. beom’s warnings hadn’t been unfounded: most men with weaker stomachs would have balked, if not outright vomited, at the sight of these images. macfarlane, however, not being most men, seemed unfazed. as he flicked through the images, studying each, he asked absently, “ why do you believe they disfigured the victim? ”
‘ to erase her existence. delay in identification means delay in finding the motive of crime and, consequently, the culprit. it was all planned, ’ it’s not long before he faces the other way, hands cupping his mouth to restrain from from gagging. another view and he might not be able to contain himself –– how lonely and sacred she must have been; how frustrated and betrayed she must have felt in her last moment –– the thought alone causes stabbing pain. choking back the guilt, he clears his throat, reclaiming himself. ‘ well, they did a fine job. we have no clue who she is and the public’s already forgotten her like she never existed. how could we let this happen? ’

im confused, is this an oc or is this a race bent atticus finch?? like i know you say it's an oc but his name is atticus and ur domain is atticus finch lol. is it just heavy inspiration ?
in short, no. he’s not a race bent atticus finch. he was more inspired by the life of an actual politician than atticus finch, himself. the only similarities they share would be the name (his parents named him after atticus finch) and the occupation. although i completely understand where the confusion is coming from.

with a tight smile, macfarlane reached out to pick up the usb. he already knew precisely what would be in these photos: judging by what he’d heard about where the body had been found and what sort of condition it had been in, it was one of his, and he was, of course, already intimately familiar with what he’d done to the corpse. organs, bones, and tissue harvested for the black market, flesh cut away to feed animals — it was little wonder they couldn’t identify the woman. “ if you have the time to stay, i can take a look at them now and give you my opinion. it will save you a trip back. ”
‘ that’d be much appreciated. thank you, doctor. ’it will be the last time, he convinces himself, the last time to look at the photos until he brings the culprit to justice. he settles behind the doctor, with a pad in hand, ready to take notes. ‘ i have my own suspicion of why they’ve disfigured the victim ––– but the organs. that ––– the police wasn’t so helpful with. ’
she was pretty sure that a sane adult man shouldn’t be talking about aliens in a public bar where people could hear them. “ well, scientifically, aliens should be out there. it’s mathematically impossible for aliens to not exist. ” she replies as a distant high school memory comes to mind. before she thinks it through properly, she blurts the memory out: “ had an encounter with aliens once, when i was in school. still not sure if i was just high or if it was real. ” she winces internally when she does, regretting saying it instantly.

chapter i / early life
↳ a. (1950) KOREA.
His parents met during the Korean War where they were both refugees from the city of Hungnam, now currently in North Korea. They would always tell him the story of the US soldier that gave them a candy as a Christmas gift during the time of great despair. They often spoke about the little act of kindness and the gentle whisper of the story lulled the boy to sleep, where he would meet the heroes in his dream.
↳ b. (1981-1998) KOREATOWN, LA.
He is born three months later, on 9 November 1981, after the family’s immigration to the United States. It’s a Monday, Hall & Oates’ Private Eyes is playing on the radio, and the Beom family welcomes their youngest child to the world. He is named after Atticus Finch from To Kill a Mockingbird ( that his mother has been reading to learn English ) in hopes that the boy would, too, grow up like the attorney –– intelligent, kind, and moral.
He spends the majority of his childhood with his nose stuck in books. His parents would apologise for their absence due to late night shifts, but he doesn’t mind as long as he has his books. It isn’t until seventh grade that he gets his hand on To Kill a Mockingbird ( half furious at the ending ) – and by god he will change the world.

↳ a. (1998-2002) PHILADELPHIA, PA.
He receives a full scholarship to University of Pennsylvania in order to study History. His day mostly consists of listening to the news and brooding in anger from the injustice in the world like most other college students. No matter his workload, he never forgets to call his parents every night either ; there are only three times where he does forget –– but not on purpose: 1. the night of the first civil rights protest he attends where he is knocked in the head from police brutality. He wakes up the next day at a hospital ( the clinking of metal equipments , hush-hush of nurses and guardian ) ; 2. the morning of his arrest by the police for organising a student rally which he is released the very next day due to lack of evidence ; 3. the last day of his undergrad and, of course, he gets punched in the face.
↳ b. (2002-2005) CAMBRIDGE, MA.
In his last year, he decides he wants to be a lawyer. With decent GPA and LSAT, getting into law school isn’t a hassle –– the interview is. He’s viewed as a charity case to most of the interviewers, only interested in grabbing him to fill up their multicultural quota. He doesn’t complain at their treatment, but he remembers their names. Three years pass like a breeze, he feels ready.
